Poi care

With the right care, your poi will stay bright, balanced, and long-lasting. Here’s how to keep them in beautiful condition.

Tikanga
  • It is customary to keep poi away from kai tables and areas where food is prepared or served.
  • It is also customary not to take your poi into the bathroom.
  • Please avoid sitting on your poi set, as it is considered a taonga and should be treated with care and respect.
Storing Your Poi
  • Keep poi in a cool, dry place
  • Avoid leaving them in direct sunlight for long periods
  • Store them hanging or laid flat to avoid tangling
Cleaning Your Poi
  • Wipe plastic covers with a damp cloth
  • Use mild soap if needed — avoid harsh chemicals
  • Let poi air dry completely before storing
Poi Safety
  • Always spin in a clear space
  • Supervise young tamariki during play
